Figure Judging Criteria

Greeting All TX NPC Figure Competitors,

This update is specifically for you as it pertains to the new judging criteria we at the NPC are judging. For the past year you have been hearing rumors or directly from me that judging will move toward a softer athletic look in figure instead of the muscular, lean look. Well, we kicked off the national competition year with the Jr. USA in Charleston and true to our
word we set the stage for local and national level judging. The look is soft and athletic. I suggest that you go on-line to examine pictures of this past weekends competition. With the exception of Figure Class D as it was too lean and hard, but we didn't have anything else to judge in that class. But all others are representative of the new look.

We look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Train hard and demonstrate sportsmanship always,

April 7 Update

Greetings Everyone,

The 2008 NPC Texas season is here. We just wrapped up a great contest in Lubbock with the West Texas Classic. Andrew and Kathleen Zamora the promoters of the contest put on a first rate show again the year. In only their second year as promoters , they set participation and attendance records for the contest. With great marketing, lodging and a spacious venue competitors and spectators alike enjoyed a highly competitive contest. Big Branch Warren and new IFBB pro Jennifer Sedia entertained all with their size and some great dancing by Jennifer.

Next up we have the Ronnie Coleman Classic on April 19th. This year the contest has moved to a larger venue, the Mesquite Convention Center in Mesquite. Promoter Brian Dobson is reporting a larger number of entries coming in and record ticket sales, so please get your tickets now. This contest has historically provided great entertainment and competition. Additionally, we typically see local IFBB pro’s walking around the venue. You never know who you will see, so do not miss this event.

I would also like to remind competitors that you may now purchase NPC cards at weigh-in, so if you haven’t already purchased you card you can do so on Friday night. I do encourage you to purchase your cards sooner rather than later.

In closing I want to congratulate Tyler Manion the son of JM Manion and the grandson of the Prez, Jim Manion on Tyler’s World Championship in wrestling this weekend. Tyler competed in a bracket with more than 100 athletes from across the globe in Reno, NV and came out on top with a 6-3 point victor to capture his first world title. Way to go, Tyler!

Until the next contest....

Greetings All,

I apologize for the delay in getting this update out. Things have been extremely busy lately in the bodybuilding world.

We just wrapped up the Ronnie Coleman Classic. Wow, what a contest! Promoter, Brian Dobson reported that this years show broke both contestant and attendance records. Brian and his staff did a great job in making this show so big and well organized. Competitors and fans a like enjoyed a great day of bodybuilding. I tip my hat to all competitors. You all looked great and there were several tough classes to judge. Our overall winners were incredible. The figure overall winner went on to the Jr. USA's to win her class, which had more that 43 competitors. Up next for Brian and his team is the Branch Warren Classic.

On the horizon for NPC Texas is Prince Harrison's, Lone Star Classic contest on June 2 in Plano, TX. March 17 Update

Greetings All,

The start of NPC Texas 2007 Season is just around the corner starting with the West Texas Classic in Lubbock. Gustavo Badell and Ms. Olympia Iris Kyle will be but a few bodybuilding personalities in the house on March 31st. There are still rooms available at the contest hotel. Be sure to mention the West Texas Classic to ensure that you receive the contest rate.

Immediately following the West Texas Classic is the Ronnie Coleman Classic. Brian Dobson tells me that he has had more interest this year than any other year, so this contest is sure to be a true "classic."

I have received a few telephone calls and emails regarding posing music. As a point of clarification, "no vulgarity or profanity," simply means no vulgarity or profanity. Our contest are intended to provide entertainment for the entire family.

I have received additional questions regarding the 60 second routine. This routine will be performed by both male and female bodybuilders to "house" music only. The intent is for the competitor to move through the mandatory muscularity poses in any order he or she chooses. The competitor does not have to use the entire 60 seconds, nor will points be deducted for not demonstrating all the poses, however points will not be gained by not hitting all the mandatory poses. So begin posing now and memorize an order in which you will hit the following:

Front Double Bicep
Front Lat Spread
Side Chest
Side Tricep
Rear Double Bicep
Rear Lat Spread
Over head abdominal and thigh
Most Muscular (men) Favorite Pose (ladies)

Again, you have up to 60 seconds to hit these poses. The head judge will give you a 10 second warning before time runs out.

I would also like to express my sincere condolences to Francy and Heather Hassenflu. Eric, a beloved husband and father passed this week at his home in Boerne. He was a great amateur bodybuilder and friend to many in the NPC community. He will be greatly missed. God speed my friend....

NPC Texas Wheelchair Athlete Representative - Chad McCrary

It is my sincere pleasure to announce the appointment of Chad McCrary as N.P.C. Texas Wheelchair Athlete Representative.  Chad will assist our administration with the continued development of our wheelchair bodybuilding in the state.  As well as serving promoters as special consultant during contest with wheelchair athlete.  Chad not only brings a much needed perspective to our administration, but will continue to inspire many as he continues to compete on the state and national level.

I asked Chad to write a brief introduction on himself so that many of you can get to know him better  through his own words.  He has also provided contact information for anyone wishing to speak with him directly.

Welcome aboard, Chad!

Lee Thompson
N.P.C . Texas District Chairman/IFBB Judge

Greetings All!

My name is Chad McCrary! I'm a national wheelchair competitor. If I could, I would like to take this time to tell you a little bit about myself & my mission. March '07' will be two years since my injury. I was riding motocross & attempting to jump a triple jump & came up short! The outcome was a broken back (burst fracture) at the T-12 level with spinal cord damage. I did about three months of rehab & told my wife I wanted to compete in a wheelchair bodybuilding show.  Yeah! She thought I was absolutely nuts!  But that's OK! I never claimed to be sane! LOL. I have since done four shows with 1st place honors, been featured in Muscular Development, and have a space on wheelchair-bodybuilding.com.  You can go to this site if you want to show these guys your support and leave them a message! They would love to hear from you! One of the main reasons aside from the fact I love this sport, is I want to do this to give hope, inspiration, and motivation to all.  To let people know that adversity does not have to get the best of you!  You can get back up & do your thing. Lee Thompson has given me this opportunity to do a monthly article to help draw in more wheelchair competitors and keep everyone abreast on this subject. I also would like to thank Lee personally for allowing this. We have a lot of guys coming back from the war also that are very young in similar circumstances and would love to get involved in sports I'm sure!  This sport should welcome them with open arms. It's the least we can do for them after they have done so much for our freedom. I'm currently employed with the federal government as a firefighter/paramedic & have since assumed the duties as a 911 dispatcher due to my injury.  I also am off-season at this time in an effort to gain more mass for the Wheelchair Nationals. My goals are to win the overall & get a pro card in the wheelchair division.  I will keep everyone posted on future issues. I can be contacted at the following info below if anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns.  Until next time.....train insane or remain the same!!!!!  I love that saying!  I stole it from Branch Warren!  thanks Branch!  I'm sure he won't mind!  He is a super nice guy! Again I want to thank everyone for your support!

God Speed!
