Competitor Update Letter
Competitors,
Our year is off too a great start. The number of entries per show is on the rise and the level of competition is greatly improved over years past. This is a great complement to each of you for putting in the time and discipline to flourish in our fine sport.
I know many of you are training hard for our upcoming state championships and others are planning to attend the “shoot-out” in Houston to see who the best-of-the-best in our state. This year the state contest will be like no other you have experienced in the past.
First, we have a new venue. The Stafford Convention Center will be the new home of the Texas State Bodybuilding, Figure and Fitness Championships. The facility offers improved parking of previous venues, more seating, better lighting and competitor facilities.
Second, we have introduced “live” evening judging to keep competitors on their game throughout the day and to liven up the evening show for our beloved fans.
Third, we will have bodybuilding legend, Shawn Ray in the house putting on a seminar before the evening show, signing autographs and being Shawn. He will also present the overall award to our men’s open competitor (the photo alone will be a keep sake). Phil Heath, aka “The Gift” will be rocking the house with his guest posing routine. Those of you who follow the sport know Phil was undefeated as an amateur athlete and carried that winning streak into his first two pro contests winning over the likes of Darrem Charles, Dennis James, David Henry, The King and many other veteran pros.
Adela Garcia, Ms. Olympia and Arnold Classic Champion will be entertaining us with her winning fitness routines. Adela will also be holing a pre-weigh-in seminar at the guest hotel and IFBB Pro Valeria Waugaman coming off her first pro win at the Colorado Pro will be presenting the award to winners as well. Valerie will also be holding a seminar between pre-judging and the evening show. She will also be available for one-on-one consultations. Bodybuilding legend and owner of Labrada Nutrition, Lee Labrada will also be blessing our contest.
I am sure that we may also see the likes of Branch Warren (starting the season off with a bang), Johnny Jackson, David Henry, Frank Roberson and Quincy Taylor. And, who ever else I can convince to show up. My goal is to turn the this contest into a great production with a mix of great amateurs, seasoned professionals and legends of the sport.
