USA Championships Update
NPC Members and Fans,
I just returned for the USA's in Las Vegas, NV. It was a great contest with many tremendous physiques from all over the country fighting for an IFBB Pro Card. Representing Texas were Jodi Miller, Desiree Masters, Marissa Ann Garza, Natosha Green, Shakelle O’Neal, Dawn Melanie, Tracie Redding, Kathleen Zamora, Kendra McAdams, Nancy Garcia, Karen Anderson, Stephanie McDonald, Susan-Marie Williams, Christine Moore, Melissa Hessel, Albert Diaz, Jeffrey Walden, Michael Smith, Anthony Delagarza, Odis McCullough, Jason Palafox, Tyrol Dillard, Rodney Fisher, Jason Moore, Melinda Williamson, Jennifer Sedia, Tina Chandler, Melissa Dettwiller, and Karen Choat. Congratulations to each of the competitors for working hard and representing out state.
Top 5 finishers from our state included; Albert Diaz (3), Melinda Wiliamson (2), Tina Chandler (1), Jennifer Sedia (2), and Karen Choat (5). These competitors deserve special recognition for efforts. If you see them or know them give them a big pat on the back as the competition was tough and they were stand-outs on the national stage.
I had the opportunity to speak with many of you at the competition. Thank you for your feedback on NPC Texas. As we discussed, we are working hard to bring many positive changes to NPC Texas in hopes that many of you will return to competition in our great state and others will make the leap from fan to competitor. Please do not hesitate to send me feedback at lee@npctexas.org as my purpose is to serve the NPC members and promoters of the state to the best of my ability and I will accomplish this with an open communication policy.
While I am at it let me attempt to give our figure competitors some feedback from the prospective of a national level judge. First, we are looking for an athletic, “natural” physique. Not too muscular, but skinny or stringy. There should be clear definition between the muscles but not deep cuts and certainly no striations. Glute/Hamstring tie-in should be noticeable and with high, firm glutes. A nice “Y” shaped back should be prominent with a small, tight waste line. Calves should be well developed and defined. Abdominals should be noticeable and defined. Hair, make-up, jewelry and suits should be well coordinated and highlight the competitors physique and color. Suit cut should also be taken into consideration, ensure that it is flattering of the physique and ensure that the one piece reveals not abdominal area.
I hope this give each of you some direction, keeping in mind that judges can only judge what is presented on stage if this criteria is not present, we must determine which physique gets us a close to this as possible. If you have any question, please e-mail me and I will do my very best to provide you with judging criteria feedback.
Remember our upcoming contest; The Summit Classic August 19th in McAllen, Texas and the Europa Supershow (Pro/Am) August 25/26th in Arlington. I hope to see you there!
Train hard and demonstrate sportsmanship always,
Lee
